InsurTech startups invited to compete for £50k prize in Insurathon competition
Norton Rose Fulbright, a global law firm, is currently accepting entries for its seventh Insurathon. This contest is dedicated to supporting startup and scaleup technology companies focused on technological innovation in the insurance industry.
Since its inception in 2017, the firm has provided over £250,000 in pro bono advice and investment support to start-ups via the Insurathon.
Finalists selected for the competition stand a chance to win a prize that includes:
- £25,000 worth of pro bono UK legal and regulatory advice from Norton Rose Fulbright's leading corporate and regulatory insurance practice.
- A potential equity investment of £25,000.
All Insurathon entrants will benefit from a 45-minute pro bono clinic with the firm's lawyers, covering legal and regulatory aspects across various domains such as corporate, restructuring, commercial agreements, intellectual property, data privacy, employment, labour, and financial services regulation. Additionally, all finalists will be entitled to three 45-minute pro bono legal clinics during the competition day.
Norton Rose Fulbright seeks proposals from startup and scaleup businesses developing technology or propositions in areas like:
- Digitisation of insurance value chains using AI, chatbots, IoT, analytics, and smart contract technology.
- Broad capabilities in the commercial (re)insurance market, including platforms, augmented underwriting, machine learning, claims, dynamic pricing, active risk management, data, and analytics.
- Innovative insurance solutions and platforms, including blockchain-based systems, secondary trading platforms, or information sharing platforms for (re)insurance.
- Products or services that challenge the traditional (re)insurance models and practices.

This year's finalists will be announced on 8 March 2024, with the final event scheduled for 15 March 2024. Past winners of the Insurathon include InsurX, ARMD, Anansi, Riskbook (now Supercede), Concirrus, Pluto Travel, Mackenzie Intelligence Services, Flock Cover, and Nexus Mutual.
