Highland Europe backs AI workflow automation platform

n8n – the AI workflow automation platform for technical teams – has raised €55 million in Series B funding led by Highland Europe with participation from HV Capital and previous investors Sequoia, Felicis, and Harpoon.

Following a year of explosive growth, n8n has surpassed 230,000 active users and grown ARR 5x in the last year. This funding will accelerate enterprise expansion and bolster n8n's thriving community, ranked among the top 150 GitHub projects of all time.

Redefining the automation stack: AI, code, and human expertise

Jan Oberhauser founded n8n in 2019 to build the last automation tool technical teams would ever need – one that removed the limitations of traditional workflow automation. What started as an ambitious vision quickly attracted a passionate community of technical users, who, for the first time, felt truly unrestricted, like they had the power of a 10x developer.

Most tools in the $24bn workflow automation space struggle with complex, high-volume workflows, forcing teams to rely on in-house development and custom scripting, both time-intensive and difficult to maintain. n8n breaks this cycle with its fair-code platform giving technical teams the best of both worlds: the flexibility of code and the speed of no-code, combined with the power of AI.

n8n powers mission-critical workflows for more than 3,000 enterprises, enabling them to seamlessly integrate any LLM, combine it with custom code steps, and incorporate human-in-the-loop mechanisms that maintain control and compliance. This unique approach allows organisations to retain complete control over their automation and AI infrastructure.

Across industries, n8n is transforming operations with practical applications: Customer service teams are creating hybrid workforces where humans and AI agents collaborate seamlessly. IT teams are automating HR tasks like employee onboarding/offboarding, saving millions in operational costs. Security teams are responding faster to threats through automated incident management. Beyond enterprise, tech-savvy enthusiasts are creating personal workflows for everyday needs – from keeping their gardens properly watered to building personal assistants.

Impact and community at the core

Dubbed the ‘Swiss Army Knife’ of workflow automation platforms, n8n has become the trusted solution for government agencies, security teams, and enterprises worldwide. Offering both cloud and self-hosting deployment for maximum control, it has empowered companies such as Delivery Hero to save 200 hours a month with n8n, Musixmatch to save 47 days of engineering work in four months and Bordr to scale its business exponentially.

n8n has established itself as one of the most intuitive platforms for building AI agents, validated by thousands of content creators and builders sharing their templates and workflows on YouTube. The community consistently praises how easy it is to start, without compromising on iteration, flexibility or monitoring once in production – addressing the key challenges organisations face when deploying AI solutions.

With this new funding, n8n will accelerate its product roadmap, focused on expanding tools for business-critical workflows and enhancing monitoring and observability features to streamline the journey from prototype to production. The investment will also fuel significant team growth across engineering, product, and go-to-market functions while continuing to foster the thriving community through events and education. New offices will open in New York and London this year, positioning n8n to better serve its rapidly growing enterprise customer base worldwide.

Jan Oberhauser, Founder and CEO of n8n, said: “Automation shouldn’t be a black box – companies need transparency, customisation and cost efficiency. With n8n, we’ve built more than a platform; we’ve built a community that loves and relies on us. From individual contributors to global enterprises, n8n gives everyone the powers of a 10x developer which is vital given the explosion of AI in the workplace. We’re redefining what AI-powered automation and workflows are capable of.”

David Blyghton, General Partner at Highland Europe, said: “n8n has built something truly special – an amazing team, an engaged and rapidly growing community, and a product that is redefining automation. With LLM integrations now representing over 75% of workflows, the company is enabling developers to leverage AI in practical business use-cases, from ITOps & SecOps, through to sales automation. We’re excited to support n8n as they continue their journey to shape the future of automation.”
