Brazilian startup Cromai wins third edition of South Summit Brazil

The startup Cromai was the winner of the third edition of the Startup Competition at South Summit Brazil, the leading meeting of the entrepreneurial ecosystem co-organised by IE University and the Government of Rio Grande do Sul, which was held from March 20 to 22 in the city of Porto Alegre.

Hailing from Brazil, this startup in the Agrotech sector uses Artificial Intelligence to generate data on the ground to support decision-making, optimise processes, reduce costs and increase productivity.

During the closing ceremony of #SouthSummitBrazil24  awards were also presented to the 'Most Innovative', 'Most Scalable' and 'Most Sustainable' projects and to the startup with a 'Best Team'. Brazil's IBBX won the award for the 'Most Innovative'  project for having developed a solution that provides electrical energy from electromagnetic waves, being able to charge fixed and mobile devices, such as security cameras, smartphones, remote controls and IoT devices.

On the other hand, B4waste, also from Brazil, was recognised as the most 'Most Sustainable'  startup, while its compatriot Ostera won the award for the 'Most Scalable' project B4waste is a Marketplace that connects products close to their expiration date at affordable prices with consumers who intend to consume them within the deadline, while Ostera uses AI to predict the The chances of an oocyte producing a healthy embryo, even before fertilisation, non-invasively.

Finally, the distinction of startup with the 'Best Team' went to the Chilean Phagelab. This global biotechnology company uses Artificial Intelligence to develop bacteriophage treatments specifically designed to fight infections in the poultry, livestock and aquaculture production systems industries.

All the winning startups were chosen from among the 45 finalist projects, from 13 different countries and selected from more than 2,000 candidates.

South Summit Brazil 2024 once again reaffirmed its international perspective and its position as a benchmark meeting for the entrepreneurial and innovative ecosystem in Latin America and around the world. For three days, Porto Alegre brought together more than 23,500 attendees from 55 different countries, including more than 800 speakers,  3,000 startups, 900 investment funds, ready to support the best innovative ideas from all over the world thanks to a portfolio of 213,000 million dollars, and more than 750 accredited media.

During the closing ceremony, María Benjumea, president and founder of South Summit, highlighted how "the globality of South Summit is a dream come true, which has been possible thanks to the collaboration of all the actors in the ecosystem, and always hand in hand with innovation and sustainability. Thanks to all these values we have achieved something that is already a reality, that Porto Alegre is the world capital of entrepreneurship. And with this strength we are preparing South Summit Brazil 2025, for which we already have dates: April 9 to 11, 2025."
