Auum and Siemens look to reduce waste and water consumption

Established in 2019, Auum, standing for ‘Arrêtons l'Usage Unique Maintenant’ (Let's End Single Use Now), is dedicated to aiding companies in eradicating the five billion disposable cups annually used in France.

Following three years of research and development, Auum introduced the auum-S in 2021, a g cleaning solution, now deemed the most sustainable in its category. It boasts the ability to clean, disinfect, and dry a glass in 20 seconds using only 10cl of water without any chemicals, making reuse as convenient and rapid as disposability.

Auum's technology not only offers user-friendliness but also presents an economically viable alternative to disposable cups, especially crucial in the wake of France's Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy (AGEC) law. The solution has garnered the support of nearly 300 B2B clients, including about half of the CAC 40 companies like Total Energies, Kering, L'Oréal, ENGIE, Saint-Gobain, Boursorama, and Air Liquide.

Auum's collaboration with Siemens has led to fruitful results, with both entities combining their expertise in technology to craft innovative, sustainable solutions. Auum contributes to Siemens' CSR strategy, while Siemens aids Auum's growth through technological support.

Siemens' collaboration with Auum underscores its commitment to supporting France's reindustrialisation and leveraging its innovation prowess for ecological transition. Auum benefits from Siemens' expertise in optimising industrial tools, thereby reducing its environmental impact. Siemens contributes to this with solutions from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, like the Solid Edge and Simcenter STAR-CCM+ software, helping Auum refine its technology and create a digital twin of its production area.

Clément Houllier, CEO, and Co-Founder of Auum says: "I am very proud to be able to work hand in hand with a group of this size and support them in a zero-waste initiative in France and Europe. I know that the support of Siemens in all our digital tools in research and development and in production is the key to our scaling up".

Auum aids Siemens' CSR policy by implementing its cleaning solution at Siemens’ sites in Toulouse, La Défense, and Châtillon. This helps Siemens reduce waste and conserve water. Plans to expand this solution to more European sites in 2024 are underway.

"All industrial and technological innovations are supported by the use of digitalisation solutions. To accelerate the convergence towards an optimised and compliant product, Auum has chosen solutions from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. These solutions, which cover a broad spectrum, will allow us to support the startup in its various development phases: innovation, industrialisation, and optimisation. The collaboration with Auum is accompanied by the deployment of the auum-S within the Siemens offices in France as part of our CSR policy," says Jean-Marie Saint-Paul, General Manager of Siemens Digital Industries Automation and Software France.

Doris Birkhofer, President of Siemens France, adds: "At Siemens France, we believe in the power of the ecosystem to find concrete solutions to society's major challenges. We support startups throughout their lifecycle and help our 100% French treasures to scale up. As a leader in technology, we use digitalisation and our innovative technologies to provide solutions to the challenges of reindustrialising France and making businesses more competitive, while addressing the challenges of sustainable development. In this respect, we are proud to contribute to the growth of AUUM, which is tackling the challenge of zero waste and contributing to the development of the circular economy.”
