Spanish tech company Glovo hosted its fourth annual Startup Campus at its Yellow Park HQ in Barcelona. The event included three days of intensive, high-impact immersion designed to accelerate the growth of early-stage and high-potential startups and to pay forward Glovo’s success to national innovation ecosystems.
The Campus format provides startup founders with the opportunity to discuss ideas, strategies, and industry outlook with leading figures in the tech sphere, empowering them and strengthening local tech ecosystems in the process. At the end of the program, they have the opportunity to pitch their solutions to venture capital investors and industry experts. This year, 19 startups and 33 founders and their teams from Germany, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Moldova, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Tunisia, and Ukraine took part.
Opening the event, Sacha Michaud, Glovo Co-Founder, shared: “When we started Glovo in Barcelona in 2015, we had to figure out the startup playbook the hard way; we learnt by doing with little resources. Today, through Startup Campus, we are proud to pay it forward as the local digital ally who brings together exceptional founders from across emerging tech ecosystems to share our learnings, connect them with great mentors and investors, and help them build resilient businesses that can scale globally”.
Delivery Hero: Europe’s leading founder factory
During day one, Sacha Michaud and Eszter Ungar, Delivery Hero’s Vice President for Corporate Affairs, discussed new research published by Delivery Hero with startup data platform Dealroom.
The research revealed that alumni from Delivery Hero’s European brands have founded 150 startups, worth an estimated €7.5 billion. This makes Delivery Hero Europe’s largest founder factory by number of next-gen startups, surpassing the likes of Klarna, Zalando, and Spotify. Glovo itself is responsible for 35 of those startups, with a combined estimated value of €461 million.
The report findings are evidence of the success Glovo has had to date in fostering entrepreneurial mindsets and national innovation ecosystems.
The 4th edition of Startup Campus
The participants received mentorship to strengthen their core products and strategic connections with the right partners to expose their businesses to scaling opportunities. They received masterclasses, workshops, and strategic feedback from industry experts and mentors, including Glovo Founders Oscar Pierre and Sacha Michaud. Theoretical and practical sessions were held in strategic partnership with entrepreneurial support from organisations such as Endeavor Spain, ACCIÓ (Generalitat de Catalunya) and the collaboration of the Polish Development Fund (PFR).
This edition culminated with the startups’ pitching to a panel of industry experts, including Paulo Revilla (Director of Entrepreneur Growth, Endeavor), Rocío Flor (Head of Startup Growth & Funding Advisory, ACCIÓ), Fernando Galea (Growth Banker, BBVA Spark), and Mario Brassesco (Venture Partner & Investment Director, Encomenda Smart Capital). The Romanian Startup “.lumen,” won the pitch with their pedestrian autonomous driving AI glasses for the visually impaired. Second and third positions were awarded to “Granter”, a Portuguese AI startup for grants consulting, and to “Bleecker Technologies”, a Spanish company for automating inventory tracking with computer vision and patented visual codes. All of them will continue to be mentored and advised by Sacha Michaud.
“We’re incredibly honoured. We are building a technology which potentially can be of immense use for Glovo and its customers. I’m very excited, and I can’t wait to get home and work on the things which we have promised to deliver.” said Cornel Amariei, CEO at .lumen.
Since the Glovo Startup Campus was established in 2023, 53 startups have been hosted at Glovo, more than 20 local Power Up competitions have been held, and more than 1,000 have been impacted by the programme.
