Coroflo launches its breastfeeding monitoring technology in UK stores

UK-based startup Coroflo has announced the launch of its breastfeeding monitor in John Lewis stores.

Its technology, called Coro, is a smart nipple shield that is placed onto the breast while a baby is being fed. Sensors measure the milk flowing through the shield and send information to an app on the user’s phone.

The app determines roughly how many millilitres the baby has drunk in real time, while also showing feeding time, milk flow rate, temperature, and left-versus-right breast volumes.

The technology aims to help tackle anxieties around when women should stop breastfeeding and whether their babies are getting enough milk.

Mothers often face concerns around low milk supply, with the UK having some of the lowest breastfeeding rates globally. While 81% of mothers initiate breastfeeding in hospitals, this drops sharply to just 1% of mothers exclusively breastfeeding at six months.

The startup says this concern stops many women from continuing to breastfeed. Coro can help provide clear, objective data, allowing women to make informed and confident choices about their feeding journey.

The startup was co-founded by Dr Helen Barry and engineer Jamie Travers, who are husband and wife. They reported that their son was born with a low birth weight, which caused stress around his feeding.

“The only way to check his intake back then was through stressful, inaccurate weigh-ins at clinics,” said Helen Barry. “The lack of immediate answers at home was agonising. Jamie realised his background in flow monitoring could solve this for us, and for millions of other parents in similar situations. We built Coro so no mother has to be concerned about whether her baby has enough milk.”

Dr Caroline Boyd, Perinatal and Clinical Psychologist, said: “Access to reliable information can help reduce uncertainty, giving mothers greater confidence and the head space to get to know their baby and grow into their role as a parent.”

The startup, although a consumer-focused product, has partnered with international research institutions such as The Lundquist Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center to deepen clinical understanding of maternal health and lactation.

Coro released its product in Ireland in July 2026 and now marks its official UK debut.

Catherine McCann, Partner and Nursery Buyer at John Lewis, said: “We are delighted to partner with Coroflo as their exclusive UK launch retailer and bring this device to high streets across the country.”
